Welcome to St Mary's

St Mary's with St John sits in idyllic surroundings at the heart of the village of Hertingfordbury, in a parish which also includes a group of settlements known as 'the Five Greens' - Birch Green, Cole Green, East End Green, Letty Green and Staines Green.

The great preacher William Temple once said that the Church is the one organisation which exists 'for the good of those outside it'. At St Mary's we seek to be an inclusive, welcoming and community-focussed church. Currently we hold concerts, art exhibitions and school services, as well as running coffee mornings and a toddler group.

During daylight hours, the church is open for quiet reflection and there is a prayer tree where anyone can come to write a prayer.

Worship at St Mary's is led by our choir and organist. We value tradition, but also seek to pioneer informal child-friendly worship. Our monthly all-age service is a shorter, interactive service in which children are encouraged to participate fully. We now additionally hold Young Church (Sunday School) once a month in parallel with the regular service.

St Mary's is part of the Hertford Team of Anglican churches and shares its clergy and a ministry team with the town centre church Hertford St Andrew's.
